San Diego Spring Break Guide

We’re finally coming off what feels like the longest rain spell and we are so looking forward to all of the fun spring activities in San Diego. For the first time we don’t have any travel plans and we’ll be able to experience all our hometown has to offer this season.

San Diego has a ton of activities for families, making it one of the best spring break spots. I rounded up some of the best things to do, eat and see on your San Diego vacation.

The Beach

If the weather is nice, you’ll definitely want to add the beach on your list of things to do in San Diego and each beach is very different so you’ll want to know where to go.

Mission Bay– Although not quite a beach, it’s my personal favorite. It’s quiet, you can play with water toys (yep, jet skis for rent), grill and set-up a bonfire right on the water. It’s perfect for families looking for water fun.

Coronado–One of the most popular beaches and for good reason, it’s beautiful. The sand is extra soft and you’ll have amazing views of the famous Hotel Del. However, you’ll want to prepare for big crowds and a long walk to your car.

La Jolla–Surrounded by cliffs and a beautiful view, this is another great choice. You can also rent kayaks here.

Mission Beach Boardwalk–If you’re looking for a place to walk around, dine and play, you’ll want to head to Mission Beach. Another great option for families.

Theme Parks

Home to the San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park, Sea World and Aquatica, there’s plenty to do. I’d say each theme park takes about half a day so you’ll still have time for other activities in the evening.

Spring break gets pretty busy so head out early, pack a lunch (food is not the best here) and take plenty of sunblock.

Where to Eat

I may be bias but we have some of the best food in our city. My two favorite neighborhoods for dining and walking around are Liberty Station and Little Italy.

Liberty Station–Just north of DT, you’ll find Liberty Station in Point Loma. You can walk around Liberty Public Market for a quick bite or dine at Corvette Diner (great for families) or Breakfast Republic (hot breakfast spot). Lots to see and do and you could spend a few hours here.

Little Italy–True to it’s name, Little Italy has some of the best Italian restaurants. Take an Uber and walk through the neighborhood until you find something you like!

Where to Stay

We did a staycation at La Estancia last year and we can’t wait to go back. I highly recommend staying here during the spring. It’s located in La Jolla and just a few steps from the beach, the dining is amazing and it has the small boutique feel.

Other Things To Do

There’s so much to do in San Diego but here’s a few more of my favorites.

New Children’s Museum-Located in downtown and such a fun experience for kids. There’s something for every age.

Balboa Park–Home to museums and beautiful scenery, definitely worth a visit on your trip. It also makes for some amazing photo spots.

Concerts–There’s always artists stopping by in San Diego, check ahead for your dates as they tend to sell out.

Visit Mexico– So close to the border, it’s worth taking the drive down to Rosarito and Ensenada for amazing culinary, drinks and views.
