13 month breastfeeding update

13 months of breastfeeding this one. My goal was to make it to a year and then wean Nati but here I am at month 13 and I’m thinking I’ll just do it when she’s ready. Or when we’re both ready.  I was only able to breastfeed Ari 7 months so making it this long was a major accomplishment for me. With Ari, I lost so much weight and lost my supply so neither of us were getting our nutrients. I really had no other choice but to stop breastfeeding her since it was making me sick and she wasn’t gaining any weight. I was heartbroken but I knew it was what I needed to do.

This time around, I planned ahead. I pumped in between feedings and built a healthy freezer stash before returning to work. When I mean a healthy stash, you open my freezer door and there was nothing but milk. So in other words, frozen pizzas were not a thing for a few months. I also probably spent hundreds of hours pumping my life away to ensure I would have a backup supply in case I needed it.

There is no hiding the fact that breastfeeding is hard…and a lot of work, especially for working moms. I had to pump multiple times a day to keep my supply up and then wash and store all of the pieces for the next day. It’s tiring and time consuming and you have to be committed. The best thing I ever came across was the Nanobebe bottles a few months ago. The all in one system allows you to connect your pump right to the bottle which means less parts to clean and all of the nutrients go straight to your baby! It was so easy to pump and store the milk to give to Nati. It made the process so much easier. I only wish I had discovered it sooner.  The newborn gift set even came with everything I needed–  a sterilizer, connector for my pump, drying rack and bottles!

Now if anyone has any tips on getting Nati to sleep through the night, I could totally use them! This girl is still waking up multiple times a night to eat and this mama is exhausted!
